On the reverse of the picture are hand written instructions about the colours and framing; for example - grey blue eyes; pale delicate blue dress; pearl beads. The original gilt surface of the mount has largely faded away leaving a soft blue colour which compliments the tones in the subject. This fascinating and engaging portrait is showing signs of age. We have removed the picture from the frame for to remove years of dirt and debris under the glass. In the centre of the picture, part of the image had become adhered to the glass, detaching from the paper. This was most likely the result of storage over time. This deterioration takes nothing away from the beauty of the picture and it still looks fabulous on display. We have provided detailed photos of the picture.
