The doll has pretty hand painted decoration and has developed a pleasing patina over time. A great collectible piece.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe doll has the slightly concave, tapering body and rounded head typical of the Naruko style. The decoration on the front is of chrysanthemums. This type of Kokeshi is also known as a 'squeaky head' doll. The head is fitted to a peg which squeaks when it is turned, a sound it is suggested, that resembles a crying child. The doll is signed on the base showing the names of the maker and decorator. The signature is likely to be that of Shoji Sakurai corresponding to the renowned Kokeshi artisan from the Naruko region.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe doll likely dates from the early to mid 20th century and shows signs of wear commensurate with age. There is some fading or wear to the paint, perticularly the green leaves and the yellow bands. Please look at all the photos to ensure you are aware of the condition. The doll measures 24cm high.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis Kokeshi is a beautiful example and would make a great addition to a collection.
