Khatam Micro Mosaic Trinket Box
A very decorative vintage Persian jewellery or trinket box with lid. The Khatam box is decorated with a marquetry technique giving a finely detailed geometric pattern over the whole surface.
The Khatamkari technique involves inlaying tiny pieces of wood, brass and bone to create a pattern. The mosaic inlay covers the sides and edge of the box as well as the lid. The decoration is finished with fine wood and bone stringing along the edges, defining the patterned surface. The lid is recessed and lifts off with the little brass finial. Inside, the box is lined with a deep red fabric, possibly velvet, which is rouched inside the lid. The base of the box is covered with a piece of clear acrylic. Overall the box is in very good condition, with just the tiniest loss to the inlay on the lid next to the knob. Please look at all the photos to ensure you are aware of the condition.
This delightful, pretty little box would be the perfect decorative addition to a dressing table. It is ideal for keep small items of jewellery or any of your most precious keepsakes.
