Antique Ceramic Bread Plate

£25.00

A very pretty antique bread plate with floral motifs and a fluted form. The plate is shallow with a deep, sloping side as is typical with this type of tableware.

Introduced in the late Victorian period, bread plates became fashionable to serve rolls or sliced bread at the table. Bread plates had a shallow dished shape with a deep sloping edge. This charming plate has a transfer decoration of pink dahlias. The plate's fluted shape is particularly decorative. The plate shows signs of wear and age. There is crackling to the glaze and some scuffing and discolouration especially around the edge. There is more wear evident on the back with some minor hairline cracks and a chip, which cannot been seen from the front.

The plate measures 28cm diameter and approximately 3cm high.

This lovely antique piece would look so decorative on your table and perfect for serving bread at breakfast or cakes at teatime.
