Cat Money Bank, Cast Iron: Hubley Antique Still Bank
A rare cast iron coin bank or 'still' bank made by Hubley. This charming piece was made by the noted Pennsylvania manufacturers in the early 20th century.
Hubley's early production, between 1900 and 1920, concentrated on making cast iron toys, which included still-banks. This little money bank is is made from heavy cast iron in the form of a seated cat. The white painted cat wears a red bow and unusually, has glass eyes. The coin slot is in his back. The money bank is in good antique condition with chips to the paint and wear that would be expected with age and use. One of his glass eyes is damaged. Please look at all the photos to ensure you are aware of the condition. The money bank measures 11cm high.
These early money banks are hard to come by as original Hubley pieces and as such, are highly collectible. This lovely little cat is one of many different animal and figure designs made by Hubley. He would make a delightful decorative piece for display on a shelf or windowsill, or perhaps used as a paperweight on a desk.
